Designed for mobile use, the radio will support dismounted soldiers in multiple operational scenarios.

The handheld radio, along with the SOVERON VR vehicular radio, will provide a common operational picture in near real-time.

According to Rohde & Schwarz, it ‘forms a seamless connection to the higher echelons on the battlefield’.

Rohde & Schwarz Tactical Communications vice-president Alexander Philipp said: “In cooperation with EID and our long-term relationship equipping the Portuguese defence forces, we will ensure a sovereign capability in country to support the Portuguese Army throughout the lifetime of their communications systems and upgrading the existing equipment to the latest standard.”

In 2020, Rohde & Schwarz achieved the R&S M3SR software-defined radios (SDR) delivery milestone.
