Canada-based DEW Engineering & Development, together with RUAG Land Systems of Switzerland, will develop new vehicle protection technologies for the Canadian military.

Under the agreement, the team will work on a wide range of Canadian Army programmes including the close combat vehicle, tactical armoured patrol vehicle, light armoured vehicle 3 upgrade, mobile tactical vehicle and medium support vehicle system.

The team will design and develop next-generation and fully integrated combat protection vehicles that can survive ballistic, improvised explosive device, rocket propelled grenade (RPG), self-forging warhead and mine-blast threats.

Initially, the companies will bring their passive RPG-defeating technologies to Canada, with the remaining technologies brought at a later time.

The SidePRO-LASSO is an adaptive, passive and very lightweight RPG defeating technology that protects crewed medium and heavy-armoured vehicles against the common RPG-7 anti-tank grenade.

Vehicle projects in the Canadian Army include major refurbishment of the light armoured wheeled vehicle fleets and a multiyear life-extension programme of the M113 fleet.
