The programme aims to help ground forces during reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition operations, and to maintain a persistent presence in high-risk areas.

As part of the programme, the successful bidder will manufacture four ISR aircraft for delivery within 18 months of contract award, which also includes a one-year option for delivery of four more low-rate initial production aircraft.

Northrop Grumman is an industry leader in both manned and unmanned ISR systems as demonstrated by such programmes as joint STARS, Global Hawk, Guardrail and the MQ-5B Hunter.
