Cambodia has purchased 50 new T55 tanks, and 44 armoured personnel carriers and other combat vehicles to boost its military, Cambodian Foreign Ministry spokesman Koy Kuong has said.

“We have purchased this equipment in order to strengthen our military capacity to defend territorial integrity and to prevent any intentional invasion from another country,” he said.

Information regarding the cost of the new equipment and the seller have not been disclosed, according to Channel News Asia.

Cambodia currently has an estimated 124,300 armed forces members, according to the International Institute of Strategic Studies in London.
