The Russian Defence Ministry has plans to position the Voronezh-DM radar station in south Russia’s Armavir into a state of operational readiness, and to build new radars to counter missile threats.

Lieutenant General Oleg Ostapenko said the new radar stations will replace the existing stations and maintain continuous radar control of all threats.

The Voronezh Class radar with a range of 4,000km is environmentally friendly and consumes less energy, according to RIA Novosti.

The Armavir radar will be the second facility that will fill the gap in the radar coverage on Russia’s western borders.
