Nato Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen and Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergei Lavrov are meeting today to discuss the defence cooperation in Afghanistan and preparations for the forthcoming Russia-Nato Council summit.

The key issues to be considered will include increasing of cooperation in Afghanistan and the expansion of transit for coalition forces across the territory of the Russian Federation.

The sides will discuss the joint analysis by the alliance and Russia of threats to security in the 21st century, and the results of which will be presented at the Lisbon summit, scheduled for 20 November.

The helicopter dossier, which includes the terms for the provision of helicopters for the Afghan Army by Russia, will also be discussed, according to ITAR-TASS News Agency.

The first RF-Nato summit since August 2008 will also cover a wide range of issues including counterterrorism, the fight against sea piracy and non-proliferation issues.
