North Korea has violated the UN sactions imposed on it by exporting $100m weapons and missiles a year, a UN expert panel’s report has said.
The report said North Korea has been involved in nuclear and ballistic missile-related activities in certain countries including Iran, Syria and Myanmar, according to Bloomberg.
North Korea has engaged in activities that include assisting Syria in the design and construction of Dair Alzour nuclear reactor, and the possible sale of a magnetometer to Myanmar, which can be used in a nuclear centrifuge or missile guidance system.
The country has used methods, such as false description and mislabelling, alteration and falsification of the information, use of multiple layers or intermediaries, shell companies and financial institutions to conceal its activities.
The report was prepared to monitor the enforcement of sanctions intended to block North Korea from exporting or importing weapons and nuclear or missile technology.
