The foreign ministers of Russia, India and China have called for six-party talks to resolve the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula.
According to the joint statement of 6 September 2005, the talks aim to find a peaceful resolution to the security concerns due to North Korea’s nuclear weapons programme.

“We have confirmed the importance of adhering to peace and stability on the Korean peninsula and in the region as a whole through a dialogue,” the document said.
The six participating states include North Korea, South Korea, the People’s Republic of China, the US, the Russian Federation and Japan, according to Bernama.
North Korea, however, declared on 14 April 2009 that it would withdraw from the talks and that it would resume its nuclear enrichment programme in order to boost its nuclear deterrent.
Five rounds of talks from 2003 to 2007 have resulted in North Korea agreeing to shut down its nuclear facilities in exchange for fuel aid and stepping towards the normalisation of relations with the US and Japan.
