BAE, ArvinMeritor and Navistar have delivered an enhanced protection configuration of the joint light tactical vehicle (JLTV) prototype to the US Army and Marine Corps.

BAE US Combat Systems vice-president and general manager Ann Hoholick said the vehicle was similar to the category A prototype with improved, enhanced and scalable survivability.

“The military looks to JLTV to provide the improvements in protection, performance, and payload needed to fill the capability gaps between the HMMWV and MRAP families of vehicles,” she said.

The delivered prototype is the final under the 27-month technology development phase, which is expected to conclude in May 2011.

The vehicles will undergo continued government testing over the coming months to finalise requirements for the engineering and manufacturing development phase of the programme.
