The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) have concluded Cooperation 2010, a nine-day joint counter-terrorism (CT) training exercise.

PLA deputy chief of the general staff Ma Xiaotian said the training exercise has brought bilateral defence relations to a new level.

“This training exercise was conducted in an open, cooperative and peaceful manner. This is also the first time a PLA chemical defence regiment participates a joint exercise with the SAF here since the two countries established diplomatic ties 20 years ago,” he added.

About 60 personnel from the SAF and 86 personnel from PLA participated in the exercise, which provided a platform for the armed forces to better understand and cooperate with each other.

The exercise focused on CT security operations, including chemical and explosive threats and responding to major international events, according to Channel News Asia.
