General Dynamics (GD) Armament and Technical Products has been awarded a firm-fixed-price modification contract from the US Army Contracting Command for the 155mm M231 and M232A1 modular artillery charge system (MCAS) propelling charge increments.

The new award is a modification of an existing contract to provide the load, assembly and packing for the M231 and M232A1 MCAS.

The MCAS provides propelling charges with combustible cartridge cases for 155mm artillery.

The system offers enhanced precision, high range and a reduction in logistics, and can be easily integrated with new and existing howitzer systems.

The M231 system is used by the US Army primarily for training, while the M232A1 is designed for use with service rounds.

Work will be carried out at the company’s facility in Vermont, US, and is expected to be complete by 13 September 2013.
