The Canadian Government plans to acquire new trucks for its military in a deal estimated to be worth $750m as part of a new project called logistics vehicle modernisation (LVM).

LVM intends to replace more than 4,000 vehicles from various military truck fleets and modernise the fleet of heavy engineer support vehicles, according to the Public Works Department.

The vehicles include 1,200 heavy logistic vehicle wheeled trucks and 2,800 logistic support vehicle wheeled trucks.

The programme also seeks to purchase a range of equipment including multipurpose trucks, ambulances, dump trucks, tractor-trailers and wreckers.

The contract is expected to be awarded in the summer of 2014 with first deliveries to take place a year later, as reported by the Ottawa Citizen.
