AeroVironment wholly owned subsidiary Telerob has delivered its telemax EVO HYBRID uncrewed ground vehicle (UGV) to the US Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA).

The UGV order includes training, spares and accessories packages.

The telemax EVO HYBRID UGV is designed to be operated by PFPA explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) and hazardous materials handling (HAZMAT) technicians.

It was purchased for deployment by PFPA’s hazardous devices branch.

The uncrewed system has an expansive payload bay and automatic tool exchange. These features allow the UGV operators to take several tools, disruptors, and other sensors downrange, removing the need for round-trip loadouts.

AeroVironment uncrewed ground vehicles vice-president and product line general manager Brian Young said: “With its strong six-axis precision manipulator, Tool Center Point Control and automatic tool exchange, the telemax EVO HYBRID enables EOD and HAZMAT units to perform dangerous missions from a safe distance and with precision control, even in the most confined spaces.”

Telerob’s telemax EVO HYBRID comprises a four-track drive system with auto-levelling for easy handling of multiple gradients, gaps and terrains.

The UGV’s on-board IP Mesh radio supports secure communications even in contested urban operations.

Telerob’s advanced UGV solutions effectively perform several complex missions such as EOD, hazardous materials handling and chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threat assessment.

In May this year, AeroVironment acquired German uncrewed ground robotics solutions provider Telerob Gesellschaft für Fernhantierungstechnik.

The purchase price included $45.4m (€37.5m) in cash and the pay-off of about $9.4m (€7.8m) in Telerob’s debt.
