Global aerospace and technology company Paramount Group and US-based Sarcos Robotics have partnered to bring robotic systems for defence customers in the Middle East and Africa (MEA).

The two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore market opportunities to deliver modified Sarcos’ robotic systems in the region.

The announcement was made as part of the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX) conference held in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The event started on 21 February and ran until 25 February.

Paramount Group chairman Ivor Ichikowitz said: “Sarcos and Paramount share a vision to deliver revolutionary products that improve efficiency and reduce risk of injury in vigorous environments; bolstering workers’ strength and amplifying performance in often ergonomically stressful environments.

“We believe that the market opportunity to make an impact in the Middle East and Africa is significant, and we look forward to working with Sarcos to deliver a version of the company’s game-changing robotics, accelerating access to what are today critical technologies, specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of our customers in these regions.”

Sarcos and Paramount will initially focus on the Sarcos Guardian XO robotic exoskeleton. This robot system has been in development for the past two decades.

Paramount said that Guardian XO will allow defence and industrial workers ‘to lift and manipulate heavy objects’ up to 200lb, which include ammunition, vehicle tires, machinery and plywood.

The companies will focus on the Guardian XT teleoperated dexterous robot developed based on the upper-body portion of the Guardian XO.

Furthermore, the Guardian S multi-purpose remote visual inspection and surveillance robot will also be made available in the region.
