Harris has been awarded a contract for the delivery of its Falcon III range of multiband, multi-mission tactical radio systems to the armed forces of an undisclosed Nato country.

Under the terms of the $5.1m deal, Harris will supply unspecified units of Falcon III AN/PRC-152(C) radios to help provide the armed forces with both line-of-sight (LOS) and beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) tactical communications for battlefield operations.

Harris RF Communications International business president Brendan O’Connell said the radios would deliver high-performance voice and data capabilities required by troops for successful completion of a wide range of missions.

The AN/PRC-152(C) is a software upgradeable, single-channel handheld radio designed to facilitate secure, real-time information exchange and communication between dismounted troops at all points of need during coordination, combat and crisis scenarios.

Equipped with an embedded GPS receiver, the NSA Type-1 certified radio is capable of providing voice and data capabilities in the 30MHz to 512MHz frequency range, with a high-band option that extends range coverage to 762 MHz to 870MHz.

The radio also supports single channel ground-to-air radio system (SINCGARS), Havequick II, very high-frequency/ultra high-frequency (VHF/UHF) AM and FM, APCO P25, as well as both demand assigned multiple access (DAMA) and the new integrated waveform (IW) for satellite communications.

AN/PRC-152(C) is the most widely used joint tactical radio system (JTRS) software communications architecture-certified radio by all branches of the US Department of Defense (DoD), federal agencies, and many of its allies worldwide.
