General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) has secured a $1.22bn contract to deliver Interim Maneuver Short-Range Air Defense (IM-SHORAD) systems to the US Army.

Under the contract, the US Army also placed an initial order of $230m for 28 Stryker IM-SHORAD vehicles.

As agreed, GDLS will be responsible for manufacturing, testing and delivering the IM-SHORAD systems.

The system is designed as a cost-effective and highly mobile solution to neutralise unmanned aerial systems (UAS), rotary, fixed-wing aircraft and other aerial adversaries.

GDLS vice-president and general manager Don Kotchman said: “General Dynamics and our teammates Leonardo DRS and Raytheon are pleased to be able to partner with the army to bring this powerful capability to US soldiers.

“This dedicated SHORAD capability adds a new operational dimension to the Stryker fleet in all of the army’s manoeuvre formations.”

GDLS has production sites across the US in: Tallahassee, Florida; Scranton, Pennsylvania; London, Ontario; Lima, Ohio; and Anniston, Alabama.
