France’s Ministry of the Armed Forces has ordered further Griffon and Jaguar vehicles from Nexter, Arquus and Thales as part of its Scorpion land vehicle programme.
The new order includes 271 Griffon vehicles and 42 Jaguar vehicles which are set to be delivered between 2022 and 2023. The order follows an initial contract for 339 vehicles signed in 2017.

In total the French Army is set to receive 1,872 Griffon and 300 Jaguar vehicles by 2030 as part of a major recapitalisation of the country’s ground forces. By 2025 936 Griffons and 150 Jaguars are set to be delivered.
By the end of 2020, France is aiming to have delivered Griffon vehicles to five regiments of its army as well as military training centres and schools. Griffons are expected to be with nine regiments by the end of next year.
The French Army is aiming to have the first Griffon combined arms battle group operational by 2021.
Griffon is a multi-role vehicle designed to replace the in-service Véhicule de l’avant blindé (VAB), which comes in variants including ambulance, troop transporter, command post and artillery observation platform.

Jaguar is an armoured reconnaissance and combat vehicle which will replace in-service light tanks. Jaguar is equipped with the same CTA 40mm cannon that features on British AJAX and Warrior CSP vehicles and is made by a joint venture between BAE Systems and Nexter.
Griffon and Jaguar are both 6×6 vehicles weighing in at around 25 tonnes.
Jaguar and Griffon are part of France’s wider Scorpion project to deliver 6,000 new vehicles to the French Army that are connected via a networked system.
As part of Scorpion, France is also acquiring 2,038 Serval 4x4s and 200 upgraded Leclerc main battle tanks.
