Perth-based Advanced Braking Technology and VEEM have been contracted to produce a braking system for the Australian Army’s Hawkei vehicle.
In May last year, Advanced Braking Technology was chosen to provide a brake system for testing to Thales Australia.

The contract will allow the two companies to expand their customer base globally while showing their capability to meet the engineering requirements of Australian defence.

By GlobalDataAustralian Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Price said: “Advanced Braking Technology has been successful with its testing and will now partner with VEEM to manufacture the system with a contract value of around A$2.1m ($1.4m).
“The equipment has been developed from the proven Failsafe brake system, which has been used extensively within the mining sector for many years, both in Australia and globally.
“Now our Australian Defence Forces (ADF) will benefit from this world-leading technology designed right here in Australia. This is a win for both Defence and these Western Australian companies.”
Earlier this week, the Government of Australia announced the upgrade of Headquarters Joint Operations Command (HQJOC) in Bungendore, a major base for the ADF.
Separately, it is also set to acquire 251 Remote Weapon Stations (RWS) to enhance the protection of ADF during operations.
