Kratos Defense & Security Solutions has deployed its Mobile Laboratory Product as part of the US National Guard’s response efforts to combat the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

The product was developed in part by the Kratos Command, Control, Communications, Computing, Combat & Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) Division for the US Department of Defense’s (DoD) Analytical Laboratory System, Modified Work Order (ALS MWO) programme.

The ALS programme is executed through the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defence (JPEO-CBRNE).

The programme provides a mobile laboratory capability to DoD field analytic units across multiple domains, providing an on-site capability.

It helps in the detection and identification of diverse CBRNE materials in environmental samples.

The mobile units are adapted to conduct clinical specimen testing. Deployed to the epicenters of the pandemic within the US, they provide additional laboratory capacity supporting the increased testing activities.

Kratos C5ISR Division president Tom Mills said: “Kratos C5ISR is a key collaborator on the team of suppliers that provides the ALS mobile laboratory system to the warfighter.

“This critical platform was specifically designed and put in place to increase our nation’s readiness against a number of chemical and biological threats.”

Kratos won an initial contract in August 2015 to design and manufacture four prototype next-generation ALS shelter systems.

The systems featured multiple design enhancements and addressed issues and optimised the soldier’s ability to analyse data.

Currently, the production for three additional orders for a total of 67 ALS units is underway.
