Scout SV

General Dynamics (GD) UK has launched the first pre-production prototype scout specialist vehicle (SV) at the Defence Vehicle Dynamics Exhibition (DVD) 2014, which is currently underway at the Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire, UK.

Claimed to be the UK’s first fully digitised tracked armoured vehicle, the protected mobility recce support (PMRS) variant demonstrates how technology and capability requirements are evolving to address the needs of Future Force 2020.

General Dynamics UK Land Systems vice-president Kevin Connell said: "DVD is the perfect place to unveil the first SV pre-production prototype and to demonstrate the capabilities of the PMRS variant, which is just one of a family of world-leading armoured fighting vehicles [that] General Dynamics UK is developing for the British Army."

Fitted with acoustic detectors, laser warning system, local situational awareness system, route marking, a high performance power pack and an electronic countermeasure system, the PMRS is designed to provide safe transportation of fully equipped soldiers in a well-protected environment.

"DVD is the perfect place to unveil the first SV pre-production prototype and to demonstrate the capabilities of the PMRS variant."

During dismount operations, soldiers will be able to more effectively perform a range of missions, such as dismounted surveillance, including patrols, observation posts and close-target reconnaissance, among others.

The base-platform critical design review (CDR) for the PMRS variant was completed by GD in April, while the overarching CDR, which will establish the final design of the variant for future production, is scheduled for later this year.

The scout SV represents a tracked segment of the UK Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) rapid-effect system (FRES) programme, which aims to deliver a fleet of more than 4,000 armoured fighting vehicles (AFV) to the UK Army.

Additional platforms showcased by the company at the event include two variants of its Ocelot family of vehicles (FoV), the light-armoured vehicle demonstrator (LAV) platform, as well as its end-to-end health and usage monitoring system (HUMS) service.
