Lockheed Martin has secured a contract to continue sustainment of the US Army’s AH-64 Apache helicopter modernised target acquisition designation sight/pilot night vision sensor (M-TADS/PNVS) system.
The performance based logistics (PBL) contract represents the third of three one-year options that support the initial $111m PBL order secured by the company in 2012. The four-year contract had a maximum potential value of $375m.

Under the contract, the company will continue the provision of a comprehensive sustainment solution that enables M-TADS/PNVS mission readiness, reduces operation and support costs, while driving reliability and maintainability improvements.
Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control Apache PBL senior programme manager Rob Breter said: "The partnership between the Army Aviation and Missile Command Logistics Center and Lockheed Martin has built a comprehensive logistics solution that consistently meets or exceeds required aircraft readiness rates.
"During its peak operational tempo of more than 200,000 flying hours, the M-TADS/PNVS PBL programme averaged a worldwide supply availability rate of 98%, increasing mission readiness for the aircrew."
Also known as Arrowhead, the M-TADS/PNVS is an advanced electro-optical fire control system, designed to provide Apache attack helicopter pilots with long-range, electro-optical precision engagement and flying targeting capabilities for day, night and adverse-weather missions.

By GlobalDataThe system replaces the legacy TADS/PNVS direct-view optics with a new TADS electronic display and control unit, which enables image fusion and also augments the pilot’s target resolution and situational awareness on the battlefield.
Being used by the US Army since 2005, the system has already proven its capabilities during operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Lockheed has to date supplied more than 1,300 M-TADS/PNVS systems and spares to the US Army 13 and international customers worldwide.
