TeleCommunication Systems (TCS) has successfully evaluated its quad diversity tactical transportable troposcatter (3T) system at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, US.
Performed with Comtech Systems in support of the US Army programme, the testing saw TCS establish and maintain a 50Mbps communication link between two TCS 3T systems separated by more than 100 miles.

Comtech’s 500W solid-state power amplifiers and CS67500 series Troposcatter modems were used.

Classified as AN/TSC-198 (V3), the TCS 3T system provides high-bandwidth, low-latency, non-satellite beyond-line-of-sight network transport for existing and future bandwidth intensive command, control, communications, computers, combat systems, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platforms.
The system combines TCS’s SNAP very-small-aperture terminal system with Comtech’s IP-capable Troposcatter Terminal, which offers significant advances in troposcatter technology with a considerably smaller form factor than traditional systems.
Being the only backwards compatible system for legacy AN/TRC-170 US Department of Defense troposcatter solutions, the system establishes connectivity at data rates greater than typical satellite links, without the recurring satellite airtime costs, providing greater speed for bandwidth-intensive applications such as intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance video distribution.
