Collaborating with New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) and BBN Technologies, Vencore will work on efficient protocols for privacy-preserving computation and homomorphic encryption.

The protocols have been completed under DARPA’s Programming Computation on Encrypted Data (PROCEED) programme, the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) Security, and Privacy Assurance Research (SPAR) programme.

"This research will focus on enabling highly secure, highly efficient techniques that meet real-world applications."

Vencore Labs president Steven Omick said: "This research will focus on enabling highly secure, highly efficient techniques that meet real-world applications and are most relevant to the Department of Defense in defending programmes against reverse engineering attacks.

"This work builds on our expertise in cyber security and applied research can help our customer stay ahead of the technological curve in defending against those types of attacks."

The SafeWare programme aims at developing competent obfuscation methods that feature mathematically proven security properties and a wide scope of applications.

The goal is to develop technology that protects software from reverse engineering, making it more difficult to hack.

NJIT computer science professor Kurt Rohloff previously said: "The primary cybersecurity goal of this project is to develop proof of concept capabilities.

"If successful, SafeWare technologies will provide provably secure protection of sensitive intellectual property and algorithmic information in software that is vulnerable to capture and dissection."

DARPA contracted NJIT to as part of its SafeWare programme in 2015.
