Harris Global Network Services has secured part of the $4.3bn Global Network Services (GNS) follow-on contract from the US Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA).
Under the indefinite delivery / indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract, the company will provide leased telecommunications services to US Department of Defense users worldwide via the Defense Information Systems Network (DISN) and the Department of Defense Information Network (DoDIN).

The five-year contract includes five one-year options.

"Harris’ proven dynamic bandwidth management architecture ensures DISA will have architecture agile enough to support current and future customer needs. DISA already counts on Harris to provide bandwidth services at hundreds of locations along the East Coast of the US."
Along with Harris, DISA awarded the GNS contract to eight other companies, including cloud networking provider GTT and Level 3 Communications.

By GlobalDataThe contract will allow the companies to bid on and offer communications services, including IP and Ethernet, dense wavelength division multiplexing, synchronous optical networking (SONET) and synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) services. These will support DISA’s global network, which will include both wired and wireless technologies by 2020.
The enhanced DISA will explore newer technical approaches, such as metropolitan area networks, short-term circuit leases and fibre-optics.
