US-based Mercury Systems has secured a contract to supply digital signal processing and radio frequency (RF) modules for a signals intelligence application.

Delivery under the $2.2m contract is expected to take place in late 2016.

Mercury executive vice-president and chief operating officer Didier Thibaud said: "Mercury’s expertise in developing RF and processing solutions that detect, intercept and defeat signals of interest is ideally suited to the electronic warfare challenges faced by our armed services.

"This order exemplifies how Mercury’s innovative, affordable, open systems architecture-based solutions support systems that provide the critical electronic warfare information our warfighters need to make timely and accurate operational decisions."

Mercury’s signal processing technology is expected to provide lower ownership costs for the customer’s critical airborne programme.

In January, the company was contracted to support an airborne sensor processing application for fighter aircraft.

Valued at $6.5m, the purchase order will see the company provide the military with advanced programmes leveraging the latest commercial technology.
