Drone Aviation has received a contract from a US Department of Defense (DoD) prime contractor for sensor integration on winch aerostat small platform (WASP) tactical aerostats.

The contract includes equipment and engineering services to integrate an advanced sensor suite onto WASP tactical aerostats previously acquired and currently operated by the DoD.

The technology integration work under the $125,000 deal is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

WASP has been designed to provide day / night video and wireless communication range extension from either a fixed, stationary position or while being towed.

This highly tactical and mobile aerostat system can operate at altitudes of up to 1,500ft AGL with launch sites at 6,000ft ASL.

It supports DoD's intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance mission profiles involving ground-based assets as well as aerial assets through communication retransmission.

The US Army-owned WASP systems have successfully completed thousands of hours of solider training operations and various DoD exercises over the past three years.
