The Finnish Defence Forces and Patria have signed an agreement to provide ballistic protection shields for the army’s NH90 helicopters.

As per the agreement, Patria will design and manufacture the protective equipment, which can be installed during operations as and when required.

The ballistic protection will be used to shield both pilots and transported personnel during airlifts by NH90 helicopters.

FY-Composites will support Patria by providing ballistic protection plates for the equipment.

Work on the contract will be carried out during 2012–2014.

Patria Aviation President Lassi Matikainen said that the ballistic protection project will improve the NH90 fleet’s performance, while ensuring readiness of the fleet for any security mission.
