The US Army has awarded Yank Technologies a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II contract to further develop a wireless charging system for warfighter wearable batteries in Department of Defense (DoD) military vehicles.
The follow-on contract, spanning 18 months, is valued at $2m.

Under the agreement, Yank Technologies will move its solution from technology readiness level 4 (TRL-4) to TRL-6, integrating the wireless charging system into a military vehicle seat and a tactical vest for assessment against military environmental standards.
The company previously completed a wireless power system in 2025 that charged Conformal Wearable Batteries (CWBs) during real-time use by warfighters, with the technology reviewed by Army engineers.
At present, the US Army relies on wired chargers to power batteries and electronics used by personnel.
These devices are subject to operational and reliability concerns due to wear on connection terminals, often requiring warfighters to replace CWBs frequently and resulting in higher inventory demands.

Yank Technologies’ system is designed to address these limitations by enabling continuous charging while the user remains inside the vehicle, regardless of posture or movement.
According to the company, this approach aims to improve battery reliability, reduce the need for battery swaps, support new electronic capabilities for warfighters, and decrease excess inventory of batteries.
Yank Technologies CEO Josh Yank said: “This follow-on US Army contract prepares and advances these wireless power systems to reliably and dynamically charge warfighter wearable batteries for future Department of War missions.
“Wireless power will significantly enhance warfighter capabilities while reducing expenses for the US Army.”
Based in New York, Yank Technologies holds more than 70 patents and patents pending related to universal wireless power and data solutions adaptable across sectors such as mobility, aerospace, defence, and consumer products.
The company states that its platform aims to eliminate the use of bulky cables and connectors in order to increase operational durability and efficiency while supporting integration of new product functionalities.
