The US Department of Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) has awarded a $170.89m contract to Cloud service provider ViON for the delivery of processor capacity services.

Under the indefinite-delivery indefinite–quantity (IDIQ) contract, the company will be responsible for providing System P chipsets to DISA facilities or other locations where the agency may assume an operational responsibility.

The firm-fixed-price contract is slated to continue for five years and comes with five one-year options to extend the performance period.

“DISA aims to attain a dynamically scalable processing capability by using an on-demand approach to easily adjust to changes in processing and throughput requirements.”

The agreement will enable DISA to use IBM Power Systems scale-out servers in an ‘on-demand’ approach to provide enterprise-class security, availability and reliability for mission-critical workloads at the Department of Defense (DoD).

ViON chief executive officer and chairman Tom Frana said: “ViON has been a technology and services partner for DISA since 2007 and we are pleased to expand our relationship and provide on-demand processing power for DISA.

“This award validates our as-a-service or on-demand capabilities, as well as our experience and expertise in delivering technology solutions to the federal government.”

DISA aims to attain a dynamically scalable processing capability by using an on-demand approach to easily adjust to changes in processing and throughput requirements.

In November, ViON received a three-year $1.4m contract from the DISA to provide public cloud acquisition services that will help serve the Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) development environment by streamlining the transition to the Microsoft Azure Government Cloud and providing Capacity as-a-Service (CaaS).
