The US Government has approved a potential sale of 150 Javelin missiles and related equipment to Ukraine.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress of the possible foreign military sale, which is valued at around $39.2m.

Under the proposed sale, Ukraine will also acquire ten Javelin Command Launch Units (CLUs), training devices, transportation, support equipment, personnel training and training equipment.
The US will also extend support in the form of engineering and logistics support services.
In a statement, the DSCA said: “This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by improving the security of Ukraine.
“The Javelin system will help Ukraine build its long-term defence capacity to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity in order to meet its national defence requirements. Ukraine will have no difficulty absorbing this system into its armed forces.”

The man-portable anti-tank will help Ukraine in its fight against separatist forces. In March last year, the US State Department cleared the sale of 210 Javelin missiles and 37 CLUs.
The missiles approved for sale in last year’s notification were from US Army stocks.
Developed by Raytheon under a joint venture with Lockheed Martin, the guided munition is designed to be carried and launched by a single person.
Users of the medium-range, fire-and-forget Javelin missile include the US Army, US Marine Corps and several international customers.
The missile can be used against targets such as armoured vehicles, bunkers and caves.
The CLU is meant to provide surveillance capabilities and enable a gunner to see the targets.
