The potential deal package also includes additional non-MDE components such as missile simulation rounds, battery coolant units, tool kits, spare parts support, training, and technical assistance from both US government and contractor personnel.

The FGM-148 Javelin is an advanced man-portable antitank missile system designed to replace the older M47 Dragon system in the US arsenal.

It features automatic infrared guidance, which allows operators to seek cover immediately after launching the missile, contrasting with wire-guided systems that require continuous user engagement.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency has notified the US Congress regarding this potential sale.

The primary contractors for this deal will be RTX Corporation and Lockheed Martin.

This proposed sale aligns with US foreign policy and national security objectives by enhancing the defence capabilities of Poland, a Nato ally.

According to DSCA, this deal will bolster Poland’s ability to address current and future threats by upgrading its legacy Command Launch Units and expanding its defence inventory.

The enhancements are expected to strengthen Poland’s territorial defence capabilities and help meet Nato requirements.

The US government anticipates no difficulty for Poland in integrating these systems into its military forces.

In May this year, the US State Department also approved an FMS of 800 FGM-148F Javelin missiles to Estonia, valued at approximately $296m.
