The US State Department has cleared potential arms sales to Israel worth approximately $6.6bn, including tactical vehicles, helicopters, and armoured vehicle power packs, against a backdrop of heightened tensions with Iran.
The required notifications regarding these possible Foreign Military Sales (FMS) have already been delivered to Congress.

Israel has requested the purchase of 3,250 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs), encompassing variants such as JLTV Utility M1279A1/A2/A3, JLTV Heavy Guns Carrier M1278A1/A2/A3, JLTV Close Combat Weapons Carrier M1281A1/A2/A3, and JLTV General Purpose M1280A1/A2/A3.
The request also includes non-major defence equipment items, such as Common Remotely Operated Weapon Stations, JLTV cargo trailers, kits, various communications and surveillance equipment, integration systems, gunner protection kits, driver’s vision enhancement systems, spare parts, special tools and test equipment.
AM General will serve as the principal contractor for the JLTV sale, which is valued at an estimated $1.98bn.
The State Department has also approved a potential sale of 30 AH-64E Apache attack helicopters to Israel for an estimated cost of $3.8bn.

Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said: “This proposed sale will increase interoperability with US forces and conveys US commitment to Israel’s security and armed forces modernisation.”
A separate approval concerns the sale of Namer Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC-MT883) Power Packs Less Transmissions in full and lite configurations. Rolls-Royce Solutions America will be the principal contractor for this transaction, which is estimated at $740m.
The power packs will support Namer Armoured Personnel Carriers previously fielded by Israel in 2008.
Further, the State Department has authorised the potential sale of AW119Kx Light Utility Helicopters and associated equipment for approximately $150m.
Leonardo Helicopters USA and AgustaWestland Philadelphia Corporation have been named as principal contractors for this purchase.
The request includes aviation ground support equipment, supplemental type certificate tools, spare parts, technical data and publications, as well as personnel training.
According to official notifications delivered by the DSCA, these proposed sales aim to advance US foreign policy objectives by supporting a regional partner and are not expected to alter the basic military balance in the Middle East.
In 2024, the US administration approved a series of FMS to Israel valued at more than $20bn.
