The US State Department has approved a possible foreign military sale of Javelin anti-tank missiles to the Government of Australia.
The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) also notified Congress about the estimated $46m sale.

Under the deal, Australia requested 200 Javelin FGM-148E missiles along with the technical assistance and related logistics and programme support from the US Government.
Speaking of the development, the DSCA said in a statement that the ‘proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States’.
It added: “Australia is one of our most important allies in the Western Pacific. The strategic location of this political and economic power contributes significantly to ensuring peace and economic stability in the region.”
With the additional Javelins, the Australian Defence Force (ADF) will fill the gap in the missile inventory and will be able to maintain the required readiness level.

By GlobalDataDSCA stated that the ADF forces will easily absorb the missiles and the sale will have no impact on the region’s basic military balance.
In March, DSCA notified Congress of a $100m potential sale of 180 Javelin portable anti-tank missiles systems and 79 command launch units (CLUs) to Poland.
In February, Raytheon and Lockheed Martin’s Javelin Joint Venture (JJV) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indian company Bharat Dynamics (BDL) for exploring co-production of the Javelin anti-tank missile system in the country.
