The US Army has awarded two new orders with a total value of $97m for the delivery of new night vision goggles and thermal weapon sights.
The systems would allow soldiers to maintain stealth and quickly acquire targets in all weather and lighting conditions.

Awarded to BAE Systems, the current orders are part of a previously announced five-year contract for the delivery of the US Army’s Enhanced Night Vision Goggle III and Family of Weapon Sight-Individual (ENVG III / FWS-I) programme.
BAE Systems Precision Guidance and Sensing Solutions director Marc Casseres said: “Aiming to provide the most technically advanced and lightweight solution possible, our goggles allow soldiers to quickly detect and engage targets for a tactical edge.
“When fully integrated with the FWS-I weapon sight, the combined solution provides superior imagery and a target acquisition capability that can greatly increase mission success and survivability.”
BAE Systems’ ENVG III / FWS-I solution is equipped with a Rapid Target Acquisition (RTA) module that helps to significantly reduce target engagement time.

By GlobalDataUsing a wireless connection, the RTA module transmits the weapon sight’s aim point and surrounding imagery directly into the soldier’s goggle. This allows for quick location and target engagement from any carry position.
The solution also provides increased survivability for soldiers and allows them to precisely engage targets.
The company will perform work on the ENVG III / FWS-I programme at its facilities in Lexington, Massachusetts, and Austin, Texas in the US.
