The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of a possible foreign military sale of Royal Saudi Land Forces Ordnance Corps Foreign Military Sales Order (FMSO) II Case to Saudi Arabia.

The possible $300m sale has been requested by the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and approved by the US State Department.

Under the proposed sale, Saudi Arabia intends to acquire a new FMSO II in order to provide funds for blanket order requisitions under a Cooperative Logistics Supply Support Agreement (CLSSA).

“The possible sale will help enhance interoperability with US Armed Forces and support US foreign policy and national security objectives.”

The funds will enable the country to continue to procure common spares and repair parts for the entire fleet of M1A2 Abrams tanks, M2 Bradley Fighting Vehicles, High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs), Light Armoured Vehicles (LAVs) and M198 Towed Howitzers operated by the Royal Saudi Land Forces.

Delivery of additional support services and other related elements of logistics and programme support is included in the sale package.

The possible sale will help enhance interoperability with US Armed Forces and support US foreign policy and national security objectives.

Basic military balance in the country is not expected to be affected by the proposed deal.

US government personnel and contractor representatives will be temporarily required to be assigned in Saudi Arabia in order to implement the deal.

In addition, the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has requested an estimated $106.8m sale of equipment and services for the continuation of the maintenance support services contract to support the Royal Saudi Land Forces Aviation Command (RSLFAC).

The proposed deal will help support the RSLFAC fleet of AH-64D/E, UH-60L, Schweizer 333 and Bell 406CS helicopters.
