The UTAAS is an integrated sight and fire control solution designed for tanks and combat vehicles such as the CV90.

This modular system is currently operational in several countries, including Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Finland, Denmark, and also the Netherlands, Ukraine, and Estonia.

The Czech Republic and Slovakia have also placed orders for the system.

According to Saab, UTAAS is designed to engage both ground and air targets, with a maximum firing range of 5,000 metres (m).

The system has reported high hit probability against aerial targets at distances up to 2,000m, Saab stated in its website.

Its modular structure allows operators to select different performance features and upgrade options.

All channel beam paths share a single aperture, ensuring system stability and eliminating the need for realignment.

UTAAS can be fitted with various third-generation thermal imagers for operations at night or in different weather conditions. It also features a low-hazard laser rangefinder with adjustable repetition frequency that can be set for specific mission requirements.

The sight includes options for anti-laser eye protection.

Operators can configure UTAAS for different weapon types and integrate it with wider command and control networks. There is also an interface available for units that programme smart ammunition, the company stated.

Saab surveillance business area head Carl-Johan Bergholm said: “The increasing global demand for the CV90 underscores its proven capabilities and reliability on the battlefield. Our long-standing partnership with BAE Systems Hägglunds has enabled us to enhance our production capacity for the UTAAS, ensuring that we can meet the growing needs of our customers.”

In February 2025, Saab announced another contract from BAE Systems Hägglunds for the UTAAS system on the CV90 platform, valued at approximately Skr700m.
