Photonis Defense, the US subsidiary of Exosens, has secured a firm-fixed-price Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract from the US Army Contracting Command for the Binocular Night Observation Device (BiNOD) programme.

The contract holds a maximum value of $352.6m, and includes the development, production, and testing of the device.

Work locations and funding details will be assigned with each task order as the programme progresses.

Photonis Defense received this IDIQ contract after a competitive selection process that included six initial bidders.

The company plans to carry out the programme using its engineering and manufacturing resources in the US, including its Sturbridge facility in Massachusetts.

Works under the contract is estimated to complete by 27 February 2033.

Alongside Photonis Defense, L3 Technologies received a similar firm-fixed-price contract valued at $465.99m for the BiNOD programme.

Elbit Systems of America – Night Vision was also awarded a firm-fixed-price contract worth $450.6m under the programme.

Both companies received the contracts from Army Contracting Command, and they include development, production, and testing work with locations and funding determined per order.

The BiNOD, previously referred to as the Night Vision Device–Next, is a helmet-mounted system that amplifies low light levels to improve night vision for soldiers.

As per the BiNOD statement of work on SAM.gov, contractors must develop a cost-effective device that fulfils the specified performance requirements for the programme.

In April 2024, L3Harris Technologies secured a $256m order to continue the production of Enhanced Night Vision Goggle – Binocular (ENVG-B) for the US Army.
