The new facility will enable coatings that leverage Enhanced Physical Vapor Deposition (EPVD) technology for all 155mm artillery barrels produced domestically or imported into the UK.
The process serves as an alternative to “carcinogenic” chrome plating, which is currently used for gun barrels but faces increasing regulatory challenges within the European Union (EU) because of environmental and health regulations, such as Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH).
The majority of chrome plating is now processed outside the EU due to these restrictions, noted Paradigm.
EPVD coatings are designed to increase the service life of barrels and improve their performance. These coatings also aim to lower environmental impact. Their use is intended to support military personnel in various regions, explains Paradigm.

By GlobalDataParadigm chief operations officer Eugene Yumshtyk said: “By combining EPVD technology with world-class UK manufacturing, Paradigm Shift and Perfect Bore are redefining gun barrel performance.
“We are establishing sovereign, next-generation artillery capabilities that set the global standard.”
As part of their collaboration, both traditional and new generation barrels made by Perfect Bore will receive EPVD coatings at this facility.
The companies said that this move updates barrel production methods and materials in the UK.
The facility will support both defence and commercial sectors by providing barrel coatings designed to meet current environmental and regulatory requirements.
The companies have not provided information about the location of the coating plant or the expected start date for its operations.
Meanwhile, Paradigm Shift said its representatives are also scheduled to visit Perfect Bore this month for ongoing project discussions, with several initiatives aimed for implementation in 2026.
