Transhield has been awarded a contract for supply of protective covers for the US Army’s mine resistant ambush protected (MRAP) vehicles fleet.
Awarded by the US Marine Corps Systems Command (MCSC), the $8.3m contract covers delivery of protective covers for over 4,500 army MRAPs, as well as 217 US Navy MRAPs, Marine Corps’ Light Armoured Vehicles (LAVs), M777 Howitzers and other critical equipment.

The contract forms part of the US military’s ongoing initiative to reduce damage sustained by the MRAPs, due to corrosion and environmental degradation.
Featuring Transhield’s patented corrosion-reduction technology, the protective covers are scheduled to protect more than half of the army’s existing MRAP vehicles fleet, including MaxxPro, MRAP all-terrain vehicle (M-ATV), as well as RG-31 vehicles.
The covers are designed to provide protection against multiple environmental factors, including corrosion, dust, wind, rain, snow and UV rays and help extend the service life and ensure readiness of military vehicles in storage, on base or awaiting redeployment.
Available on the General Service Administration’s (GSA) Federal Supply Schedule under contact number GS-02F-0103R, the covers safeguard an array of military vehicles and equipment, ranging from generators to the M1A1 tank, tactical wheeled vehicles and amphibious assault vehicles.

By GlobalDataThe MRAP are a family of armoured fighting vehicles, designed to provide enhanced crew protection against improvised explosive device (IED) attacks and landmines during transportation and mission-related events in the battlefield.
Equipped with V-shaped hulls and armour plating, the vehicles have been manufactured in a total of seven variants, spread across three categories by several domestic and international companies for use by the US Army and Marine Corps.
