The US Army has placed an order with Raytheon BBN Technologies to deliver additional Boomerang shooter detection system components.

Under the $9m order, the company will also deliver spare parts for Boomerang III systems including field-replaceable microphones.

The acoustic shooter detection system uses computer-based signal processing to locate the enemy shooter as well as alert troops to incoming hostile fire.

Raytheon BBN Technologies Boomerang general manager Mark Sherman said: "With sales to the US Army and the UK Ministry of Defence, there are now over 10,000 Boomerang systems deployed, helping to protect troops in Iraq and Afghanistan."
