BAE Systems has been awarded a contract for delivery of support services to the US Army’s Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM), as part of the Software Systems Engineering Services Next Generation (SSES NexGen) programme.

Valued at $7bn for all 12 awardees, the multiple-award, indefinite-delivery indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract features a two-year base performance period, along with one two-year option and an additional one-year option.

Under the contract, BAE will specifically provide systems and software engineering support to CECOM’s Software Engineering Center (SEC), which is located at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland, US.

BAE Systems Intelligence and Security sector president DeEtte Gray said the company provided command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) domain experience and the global presence required for implementation of CECOM’s software and systems sustainment mission.

Managed by the Army Contracting Command (ACC), the SSES NexGen programme aims to support army systems and software throughout their entire lifecycle, starting from production to deployment and operational support.

Other contract awardees include Lockheed Martin, CSC, CGI Federal, SAIC, Sotera Defense Solutions, Northrop Grumman, and L-3 Services.

Work under the contract is scheduled to be complete by September 2017.

SEC provides SSES for a wide variety of US Army and Department of Defense (DoD) customers across the country, as well as delivering direct software support to soldiers during combat operations, contingencies and exercises.
