Saab and Lockheed Martin have been awarded a $288m contract to develop a simplified training technology that combines multiple vehicle crew training systems into a single product line.
The contract for a user-friendly training solution was awarded by the US Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI).

Under the contract, the companies will build an integrated system that will allow soldiers to conduct highly realistic combat exercises using their existing platforms and weapons systems.
The army will also receive a new instrumentable multiple integrated laser engagement system (I-MILES) and vehicle tactical engagement simulation system (VTESS) equipped with Lockheed Martin's SciosLive baseline.
The I-MILES VTESS will include training kits for laser detectors and transmitters to be installed on military trucks, training weapons, and armoured vehicles.

The components of I-MILES VTESS have been designed to make the system easier for individual soldiers to manage and operate in the field.
Saab’s share of the contract, valued at SEK100m ($11.8m), covers the production of laser simulators, detectors and electronics for the VTESS.
Deliveries under the contract will begin in 2017 and continue through to 2018.
