The Spanish Army has placed orders with Elbit Systems to equip its forces with Cardom autonomous recoil 81mm mortars.

The 12-month $8.5m project was awarded after conducting a series of mortar tests in both Spain and Israel.

Under the contract, the company will install the recoil mortars on the back of Vamtac 4×4 vehicles.

The Vamtac vehicles are being produced in Spain by UROVESA along with participation from local industries.

Elbit Systems Land and C4I Division’s general manager Bezhalel (Butzi) Machlis said that the mortar is also in use with the US Army, Israel Defence Forces and other armies.
