Rheinmetall Defence Australia has selected NIOA as a key supplier of ammunition and armament services for the Royal Australian Army’s Land 400 Phase II combat reconnaissance vehicle (CRV) programme.
Based in Brisbane, NIOA supplies equipment in the areas of close combat, special operations, direct fire, indirect fire, target recognition / identification, suppression and neutralisation, training, personal protection and communications.

NIOA supplies and supports small arms, medium and large-calibre munitions, special function grenades and pyrotechnics, sighting systems, and carriage solutions.
Rheinmetall Defence Australia managing director Andrew Fletcher said: “Working side by side on our Land 400 Phase II offer represents a natural next step in the relationship between Rheinmetall and NIOA.
“Today’s agreement establishes yet another foundation in the development of Rheinmetall’s growing defence industrial network in Australia.”
The LAND 400 programme seeks to acquire and support the next generation of armoured fighting vehicles (AFV) with stabilised direct fire, enhanced self-protection and anti-armour weapon systems.

By GlobalDataPhase II of the programme involves the acquisition of 225 CRVs in order to modernise the army's armoured fighting vehicle capability, by providing mounted support to future defence operations.
The CRV will be used to perform ground-based reconnaissance and counter-reconnaissance, Australian Department of Defence stated.
Rheinmetall has offered the Boxer 8X8 vehicle, which is fitted with a Lance turret and a 30mm Mk30-2/ABM gun.
The Boxer vehicle is claimed to provide protection against ballistic, mine, and improvised explosive device.
BAE Systems has also offered the Patria AMV35, equipped with a CV9035 turret from BAE Systems Hägglunds, for the Land 400 programme.
Said to be the largest supplier of military vehicles to the Australian Defence Force, Rheinmetall will establish a military vehicle centre of excellence (MILVEHCOE) which enables continuous design, manufacture, and support for military vehicles in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
