iGov has conducted live-fire testing of the tactical local area network (TACLAN) family of system (FoS) field computing device-wearable (FCD-W) system.

The operational utility assessment (OUA) of TACLAN's FCD-W was conducted during digitally-aided close air support (DACAS) testing at a US Department of Defense (DoD) test range in Nevada.

During the two-week long testing, iGov validated variable message format (VMF) and situation awareness data link (SADL) with various aircraft.

The testing involved transmitting CAS 9-lines, Air on Station reports, and other digital information between FCD-W system and the aircraft.

"The system is designed for multiple tactical mission sets using an NIAP-approved CSfC compliant end user device while using data and power from multiple sources."

The ground forces also tested video down links from the aircraft which improved situational awareness and improved their ability to process targets, iGov stated.

iGov TACLAN FCD-W project engineer Greg Kaighin said: "The FCD-W is designed for the dismounted warrior and incorporates a suite of SA and DACAS applications, including ATAK, mobileJECL, and ATRAX supporting VMF, Link 16, SADL and ANW2.

The FCD-W can be used to support a standard operator configuration for 'shooters' and a Joint Terminal Air Controllers (JTAC).

The special operation forces can use the wearable system for combat operations that allows an end user device to connect to multiple C4I devices.

The system is expected to improve the operator's ability to conduct targeting missions, situational awareness, and navigation.
