Intracom Defense Electronics (IDE) has signed an exclusive frame agreement with Saab to support the Hellenic Army’s artillery hunting radar (ARTHUR) weapon locating systems (WLS).
Representing the continuation of cooperation with the Swedish defence and security company, the agreement seeks to ensure continuous support for the army’s critical technology system, through smooth supply of spare parts and immediate on-the-field service by Greek engineers.

IDE had already undertaken co-production, integration and final testing of Arthur systems in the context of the Hellenic Army procurement contract at its facilities in Koropi, in East Attica, Greece.
The company had developed a wireless internet service provider roaming (WiSPR)-based telecommunication system for integration into the system as part of a contract awarded by Saab.
The participation of IDE and that of the domestic defence industry in Hellenic armed forces support projects contributes to the establishment of the security of supply as well as cost reductions across the life cycle of vital weapon systems, according to the company.
Jointly manufactured by Saab Electronic Defence Systems and Saab Technologies Norway, the Arthur is a C-band medium-range weapon-locating system designed for detection and location of artillery weapons within a 60km range, enabling timely and precise counter-battery fire.

By GlobalDataAir-lifted by the C-130 Hercules and other military helicopters, the standalone radar can be mounted on any truck with an adequate payload, and features low side-lobes, making it difficult to jam.
Partly based on the same technology as Saab’s Giraffe radar, ARTHUR simultaneously scans 100 targets per minute, and also tracks own shells and calculates impact points during registration.
Apart from Greece, the system is also operational with the Czech Republic, Canada, Denmark, Italy, Malaysia, Norway, Sweden, Spain, Singapore, as well as the UK.
