Harris has secured a contract for the delivery of its Falcon III wideband tactical communication systems to an undisclosed Asian military customer.
Under the $29m contract, the company will supply its new RF-7800H wideband manpack and RF-7800W high-capacity line-of-sight (HCLOS) radio systems to armed forces of the Asian country.

Acquired as part of the country’s overall modernisation programme, the radios are expected to provide soldiers with critical country-wide data communications, as well as enhanced mission capabilities in the theatre of operations.
Harris RF Communications international business unit president Brendan O’Connell said: "Our RF-7800H and RF-7800W radios will enable these armed forces to operate with more detailed situational awareness than previous generations of radios."
Weighing less than 4kg, the RF-7800H enables soldiers to transmit video clips, images, maps and other large data files at ten times the data rates compared with currently used high-frequency (HF) radios in obstructed line-of-sight mission environments, including mountains and urban terrain.
Capable of offering a persistent coverage in the 1.5MHz to 60MHz frequency range, the radio serves as the first highly reliable alternative to satellite communications for beyond line-of-sight (BLOS) data exchange.

By GlobalDataEquipped with an internal GPS, the RF-7800H offers both Citadel and AES encryption and also demonstrates backward compatibility with the company’s Falcon II HF product line and accessories.
Operating over the 4.4GHz-5.875GHz frequency range, the RF-7800W HCLOS radio helps combatant commanders make informed decisions by providing access to bandwidth-intensive applications, including group situational awareness, real-time streaming video, VoIP, and video conferencing.
The easy-to-deploy radio is already in service with the US armed forces and more than 20 countries worldwide.
The number of units ordered and delivery schedule has not been disclosed by the company.
