Accenture has assisted the Australian Department of Defence (DoD) in the development and deployment of a new codification system in support of logistics and supply chain operations.

Said to be the DoD's first software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution, the new cloud-based system will allow the department to receive up-to-date Nato codification data and develop new supply chain processes and procedures.

According to the company, codification helps defence organisations to accurately identify, classify and number supply items, as well as manage defence logistics.

In collaboration with Accenture and AURA, a DoD-led project team integrated the codification solution with internal systems to ensure it satisfied the organisation's requirements.

"Accenture is proud to have had the opportunity to work alongside defence and AURA to deliver this project focused on achieving maximum effectiveness in logistics support."

Accenture Australia defence business managing director Matt Gollings said: “Accenture is proud to have had the opportunity to work alongside defence and AURA to deliver this project focused on achieving maximum effectiveness in logistics support.”

The company conducted data migration from existing systems, and developed and deployed the new solution, as part of a one-year project.
