Israel Aerospace Industries has signed a $400m deal to sell unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to Russia.

According to the agreement, UAVs will be supplied over a period of three years to Russian arms maker OPK Oboronprom and will be assembled in Russia, according to Haaretz.

The Russian Army’s largely obsolete equipment and a lack of modern spy drones was exposed during the war with Georgia in 2008, defence analysts said.

Russia has been trying to buy more IAI spy drones since its initial $50m purchase in April 2009.
