Thales will provide tactical communications equipment and training for the armed forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo under a project funded by the US and UK Governments.

The company will supply PRC-6809 multiband inter / intra-team radios (MBITR) and TRC 3700 HF tactical radios to the FARDC.

Congo military’s rapid reaction force, which consists of 12 battalions, will use the communications equipment to enhance their command and control capabilities in support of ongoing stabilisation missions.

The Thales MBITR is a handheld radio of the AN/PRC-148 family of tactical software-defined communications equipment that provides a wideband VHF and UHF solution and can be plugged into a soldier’s pack or vehicle adapter for enhanced capability.

The TRC 3700 HF handheld tactical radio is capable of transmitting both voice and data over large distances securely in support of command and control systems.

Delivery of the radio equipment and training package are scheduled for October 2010.
